ABSTRACT

The aim ofthis study was to determine sprouting ability of Shorea leprosula pruned tree from wildling on several pruning size. Genetic materials were wildings18 month old from Muara Wahau East Kalimantan.The experimental was designed as Complete Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 4 level of pruning sizes (20, 40, 60,80 cm),3individual wildlingsand 3 block replications. The result showed that pruning size significantly affectedto number of sprout and number of nodes but it was not affect to sprout length,diameter and leaf number. The 80 cm was the best pruning size that produced maxiumum sprout number, howeverthe 20 cm was the best pruning size that produced maximum nodes.

ABSTRACT

Aren plant has high economic value because all of its parts could be used for human life. Establishment of its seed source is needed to support seed or seedlings supply. It could be used as base population for developement of aren. Exploration and collection of genetic material from its natural distribution was an initial step for establsihment of aren base population. The objective of this activity is to provide information about habitat and character of material genetic of aren from Cilacap provenance. The results showed that natural stands of aren in Cilacap were found atfrom 167 to 558 m above sea level. In this activity, 767 ripe fruits, 1378 seed and 265 wildlings from 25 mother treeshave been collected. Based on fruit extraction was known that each fruit consisted of 3 seeds. There are three fruit shapes namely big, oval and small. Most of mother trees beared small seed. Big seed resulted in the best life percentage and growth of seedling. Meanwhile, there is no variation in leaf morphology among different seed shapes. Each 100 gram aren seed (kolang kaling) contained 96,06 % water content, 0,05 % dust content, 2,94 gram carbohydrate, 0,82 gram protein, 0,13 gram total fat, 14,97 kkal energy, 0,47 gram rough fibre and 34,25 mg/kg calcium.

ABSTRACT

The existance of Kayu kuku (Pericopsis mooniana) as one of high economic timber began to rare and endangered (The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species has categorized it as Vulnerable). One of method to save the species from extinction is by developing ex-situ conservation plot that consist of collection of genetic material of kayu kuku fromseveral natural habitats and/or seed stands.One of seed source of kayu kuku in Indonesia is Identified Seed Stand/Tegakan Benih Teridentifikasi (TBT) of kayu kuku L. Gani in Anaiwoi village, district of Tanggetada, regency of Kolaka in Southeast Sulawesi province. The existance of the seed stand is important to save kayu kuku from extinction. Understanding the current status of the seed stand is needed. This paper therefore will describes structure, distribution and mother trees condition of kayu kuku in L. Gani seed stand in Anaiwoi, Southeast Sulawesi province.

ABSTRACT

Toona sureni was typically irregular flowering and has a short period of viability if not storage properly and this condition contribute inhibit seedling preparation. Macro propagation technique with cutting can be selected for seedling preparation. The objective of this study is to identify the effect of growth regulator on the shoot cutting growth of Toona sureni. The result showed that the cutting survival, amount of primerly root and number of leaves varied value i.e. 36.0 – 49.3% (Test-1) and 64 – 82 % (Test-2), 2.4 – 5 and 3.2 – 3.4 respectively. The experiment showed that growth regulation gave significant different in cutting survival and amount of primer root but not in number of leaves. The result indicated that macro propagation technique can be applied for T. sureni seedling preparation to support continual nursery activity.
